Guest Talk by Associate Professor Christian Riedel: "Discovery and Targeting of the Mechanisms that Regulate Aging"
Join us for a special guest talk by Associate Professor Christian Riedel from Karolinska Institutet’s Department of Biosciences and Nutrition. This event takes place in conjunction with the PhD defense of Jonas Fritze, supervised by Associate Professor Henrik Ahlenius.
When: Wednesday, November 27, 2024 | 13:00–14:00
Where: Segerfalksalen, BMC, A10
Associate Professor Christian Riedel will discuss "Discovery and Targeting of the Mechanisms that Regulate Aging," sharing insights from his lab’s work on the molecular and genetic pathways that control aging and the potential to develop aging-preventive therapies. The Riedel Lab focuses on understanding the regulatory mechanisms of aging, primarily using Caenorhabditis elegans as a model. They apply a combination of biochemistry, transcriptomics, and high-throughput genetic screening to explore how factors such as nutrient deprivation and stress can impact longevity through regulatory pathways like the DAF-16 (FOXO) transcription factor. This research, extended to mammalian systems, includes efforts to discover pharmacological interventions that may help delay aging and age-related diseases.
