Flow Cytometry: Sorting Course
The Flow Cytometry: Sorting Course aims to provide practical knowledge of droplet based cell sorting (FACS) that can be directly transferred to research questions.
Learning Outcomes
On completion of the course, the participants shall be able to:
- theoretically explain how cell sorting works
- set up FACS instruments and conduct quality controls
- sort on a droplet based cell sorter
- troubleshoot the most common problems that might occur during cell sorting
- do a risk assessment of cell sorting
Course content
The course includes the following elements:
- the theory behind cell sorting
- start-up, shut-down and quality control of a cell sorter
- sorting of beads and cells to fit different types of experiments
- troubleshooting, quality control and validation of cell sorting
- doing a risk assessment
Course Design
The course is mainly focused on practical exercises in regards to cell sorting, but does include literature studies and a few theoretical lectures. The results of these exercises are presented to, and discussed by, the course coordinator and course participants.

Eligibility
- Completion of basic training in flow cytometry (Basic course in flow cytometry or equivalent)
- Active FACS user

- This course is not free of charge, and will cost 10,000 SEK.

This course is a co-arrangement between the Research School in Stem Cell Biology, the Lund University Neuroscience Graduate School, the StemTherapy FACS Core Facility at Lund Stem Cell Center, and the MultiPark Cellomics and Flow Cytometry Core Facility. Please be aware that the number of participants is limited. Preference is given to PhD students and postdoctoral fellows who are affiliated with these networks, and to active FACS users.
